  3. Persuasive Essay - • Worth 12 of 99 points on the MME ELA – scored on a 6 point rubric by two scorers for a maximum of 12 points. • Plus…worth 10 points for MME Social Studies – scored on a 5 point rubric by two scorers. • Possible to score high on ELA rubric and low on Social Studies rubric.

  4. Persuasive Essay is about… • Public policy – should questions • Interpreting and communicating about data • Taking a stand and supporting with facts • Connecting response to concepts • Recognizing a reason for a different viewpoint

MME Social Studies Rubric • Same social studies prompt as used in past • Scored using MME Social Studies Rubric (same 5pt rubric as used in the past) • MME Persuasive Writing Rubric • MME Persuasive Writing Rubric (6pt rubric designed by Office of Educational Assessment and Accountability for the Michigan Merit Exam)

  6. What students will see… Students will have in their MME social studies test booklets… • Only the 6pt score criteria of the MME Persuasive Writing Rubric, and • Only the 5pt score criteria of the MME Social Studies Rubric

  7. How much time to write? • Students have 50 minutes to answer 26 multiple choice item and a persuasive essay. • The next day, students have 50 minutes to answer 31 multiple choice items and a persuasive essay. • One of the persuasive essays is a field test item.
