  1. We learned that a thesis is the main idea of a paper; while that is true, it is time to add a little more to our idea of a thesis. A thesis is the main idea of a paper or essay; it must be something arguable. “The Yellow Wallpaper explores the role of women in society” is not a thesis because no one could reasonably contradict it. “The Yellow Wallpaper blames the main character for her own madness” is a thesis because someone could contradict it. Write a thesis and an introduction paragraph on the topic “The Importance of Email.” Your thesis must make an arguable claim. June 8, 2010

  2. Today we will: • Read Scene 3 and Scene 4 of Act V. • Be able to complete the study guide. • Summarize each scene in cooperative group. • Identify the elements of tragedy. • Identify the tragic hero. Explain what makes him the tragic hero. • Read silently a work of your choosing for FUN!

Scene 3 and 5 Summaries • Before your group writes the summaries, list all the most important events in thess scenes. • Then turn those events into a paragraph summary. • Under your summaries, explain what makes this play a tragedy. • Also, identify the tragic hero. Explain what makes him a tragic hero.

  6. Homework • Bring your language book. • Complete your study guide for Act IV and V.
