MTDAMeeting the Needs of Students • Eliminate a scheduling conflict • Graduate on time • Learn at a pace that is right for them • Take a summer school course conveniently from home or another location • Recover course credit in a discreet manner
Determining Readiness for Student Success • Profile of an online student - varies • Readiness assessment – principal, counselor, parent and teachers • Determine student interest and motivation
Teacher Preparation • All MTDA Teachers will to complete an online instructor training course • Blend of pedagogy, use of learning management system and online tools and resources (audio, video etc.) • Strong emphasis on teacher responsiveness to students and presence in courses
Becoming an MTDA Teacher • Application Questionnaire – Coming Soon to Website • Letter of Support – Principal or Supervisor • MTDA Online Teacher Training
Responsibilities of MTDA Teachers • Academic – Providing feedback, asking questions, stimulating discussions, encouraging student participation. • Social – Using regular and consistent communication with students to set a positive tone in the course. Keeping the communication flowing with students and local school facilitators.
Responsibilities of MTDA Teachers • Managerial – Coordinating all aspects of the facilitation of the course. Grading assignments, assessments, and completing student evaluation and final course grading. • Technical – Guiding students in the use of technology to understand and complete their coursework.
Curriculum Development Schedule January - February • Determine course offerings March -May • Recruitment of teachers, subject matter experts, course developers • Develop courses and load in LMS • Test LMS and courses • Information/training campaign for schools • Enrollment fall semester students begins • April -August – Teacher Training • June – July – Pilot Test Run of MTDA Courses
