Diagonal: (Page 404) A segment connecting any two nonconsecutive vertices. Interior angle sum theorem: (Page 404) In a convex polygon, the sum of the interior angles = 180(n – 2) For a pentagon: 180(5-2) = 180(3) = 540 degrees
Why? Because 180 + 180 +180 = 540, as shown below. 3 2 4 1 5 Exterior angle sum theorem: (Page 406) In a convex polygon, the sum of the exterior angles = 360 degrees Why? Because 180(5)(sides) = 900/ 900 – 540 = 360
Parallelogram: A four sided figure with parallel opposite sides (Page 411) Diagonals of parallelograms: Bisect each other (Page 413) Diagonals of parallelograms: Separate it into 2 congruent D’s (Page 414)
Definition of parallelogram: (Page 418) • Both pairs of opposite sides are congruent • Both pairs of opposite angles are congruent • Both pairs of diagonals bisect each other • At least one pair of opposite sides are both parallel and congruent.
Rectangle: (Page 424) A quadrilateral with 4 right angles and congruent diagonals.
Rhombus: (Page 431) A Parallelogram with diagonals that are perpendicular
Trapezoid: (Page 439) A quadrilateral having only one pair of parallel sides called base1 and base2. Isosceles Trapezoid: (Page 439) A quadrilateral having only one pair of parallel sides called base1 and base2, with congruent base angles and congruent diagonals.
Median of a Trapezoid: (Page 440) A segment joining the midpoints of both congruent legs which is parallel to base1 and base2 and measures one-half the sum of both bases. 10 inches 11inches 12 inches
Chapter 8 & 7 Vocabulary Pythagorean Theorem: a2 + b2 = c2 (Page 350) Pythagorean Triple: Three numbers satisfying the equationa2 + b2 = c2 45-45-90 SRT: The hypotenuse is radical 2 times the length of the other two equal sides. 30-60-90 SRT: The hypotenuse is 2 times the length of the short leg while the long leg is radical 3 times the length of the short leg. 60 45 30 45

Convex Polygon: A polygon wherein no points contained in any lines drawn from anyof it’s sides may be found in it’s interior (CONVEX) (This polygon is concave.)
