  3. Mission The Directors Development Program (DDP) will provide a player-centered developmental program that focuses on creating a nurturing, educational soccer environment.

  4. The ‘win at all costs” mentality • There is too much pressure placed on young players today, the pressure comes from the coaches, parents, club directors, and the local soccer environment. • Coaches at the younger age groups should not worry about wins and losses but the following: a teams’ style of play, individual player development, individual personality development and playing the game the correct way (possession based game, with creative flowing play), enjoyment and passion for the game. • Professional youth academies throughout Europe do not play in leagues, and do not keep scores at the youngest age levels. They simply develop players. World famous academies operate this way: Ajax, Liverpool, Man Utd, Barcelona, Auxerre

  5. Objectives The Reasons Why…..The DDP will provide players with: • Appropriate competition • Free player movement within clubs • Appropriate travel to playing time ratio • More focus on quality training, and conditioned games that provide more coachable moments • Provide appropriate training to game ratio • Encourage creative freedom in training & in games • Reduce fear of failure by eliminating the pressure of winning games withmore emphasis on individual player development.

  6. Structure • The program will consist of 8-10 member clubsCurrently 6 (‘11-’12): Nether Utd, Reading Rage, Spirit Utd, WCUSC, West-Mont, YMS ‘12-13 Season Will have 7 clubs that include the addition of Penn Legacy • The current 2011-12 program includes the U09 age groups, boys and girls and 2012-13 program will be U09 and U10 • Each club must provide a player pool that contains a minimum of 24 male & 24 female players in each group

  7. Program Format Responsibilities of each participating club: • Play a minimum of 4 festivals in the fall season • Play a minimum of 3-4 festivals in the spring season. Some of the formats will be: free-play /ability based & mixed ability competition based • Host at least one festival weekend during the course of the annual season August - May • Clubs participating in the program can not participate in EPYSA Indoor or Outdoor State Cups and leagues (excl. Indoor Leagues) in the U-09 & U-10 age groups • Maximum of 4-5 tournaments per seasonal year per • On weekends that there are no scheduled festivals or match days, clubs are encouraged to hold additional training sessions

  8. Game Format / Rules: Game Formats: U-09: • 5v5, 6v6 (Goal size 6.5 x 12 feet) • 3 periods of 18-20 minutes • This allows for more interaction between players and coaches, and more coachable moments • FIFA rules apply U-10: • 7v7, 8v8 (Goal size 6.5 x 18) • 3 periods of 18-20 minutes Referee Scheduling: • Each home team is responsible to schedule qualified officials* for every home game/festival • U09/U10 (one center official)

  9. Age Groups – Player Movement: • The Directors’ Program will operate on a club pass format • All players must be registered with US Club or EPYSA • Any player within the DDP can participate in any fixture within the program for that respective age group • A coach can use any player in his age group player pool for any game/festival. • Talented U08 players can also participate in the U09 age division • Players that need more game experience may play down an age group upon approval of the opposing Director of Coaching • This will assist with players that are returning from serious injuries, players that may be behind their current age group physically and need to play and age group down

  10. Coaching Requirements & Conduct: • All coaches must be carded by EPYSA or US Club and be entered and approved into the risk management database / online system • All coaches must adhere to the Directors’ Festival Program player, coach, and parent code of conduct • Coaches, players, and parents that do not adhere the code of conduct are subject to the following as determined by the program committee: verbal warning, written warning form respective club Director of Coaching, game / touchline ban, season long ban • All coaches that are actively coaching in the program must hold a minimum of a USSF ‘D’ License, Age group Director (DDP Co-ordinator) must hold a USSF ‘C’ License, National Youth License, or other International License of the same level.

  11. Club Territory : Players Movement • Open communication is the key to creating healthy partnerships. • If any member club is contacted by players from other member clubs, regardless of age U08-U18, the respective Directors of Coaching must contact each other to notify them of the contact. • Ultimately players and parents will decide where players play, but open communication will assist with maintaining positive relationships. • Member clubs that are found to be actively recruiting other member’s players may face disciplinary action from the committee. This could result in a ban for the coach who was recruiting; serious incidents may result in a club suspension from the program.
