Reverse Transfer & Institutional Research • Nationally, half of the students who earn a bachelor’s degree after transferring to a four-year institution from a community college fail to receive an associate’s degree (College Board). • The reverse transfer agreement provides an opportunity for transfer students to receive an associate degree when the necessary requirements are met so as to more fully represent their academic success.  • As a result of these agreements, there are opportunities to refine IR data and reporting to capture the impact of these agreements on student success.

Advantages for Students & Institutions • For Students • The associate is a valuable credential in the job market, both for job hunting and for career advancement. • Imbues students with a sense of accomplishment by earning a credential and may assist in completing their Bachelor’s Degrees. • Students who do not complete their Bachelor’s Degree will have a valuable credential. • For Institutions • A student who transfers from a community college to a 4-year institution and completes a bachelor's degree is not included in the widely reported IPEDS graduationrate. • This graduation rate from NCES/IPEDS counts only first-time, full-time students who finish a degree at the institution at which they began.

  6. Current Transfer Data/Reporting • For the past 6 years Ferris reports annually to all Michigan CC’s on the number and success of their Transfer Students. • See Example. • Alternative Student Success techniques proposed by the Talent 2025 group. • See Example.

Proposed 2025 Data • Include all newly entering degree seeking students (regardless of previous education) • Recognizes any type or level of degree earned. • Report Graduation Rate in four different groups: • FTIACs – Full-time • FTIACs – Part-time • Transfer students – Full-time • Transfer students – Part-time

Additional Data Elements • Information on Response to RT Availability • #/ % of transfer from the CC that were eligible for RT • #/ % of those eligible for RT that were awarded an Associate’s Degree • # and type of credits transferred back to CC for Degree Completion • # who left their CC without earning an Associate’s Degree who needed no additional credits to complete • #/% increase in completions for Community Colleges • Within 150% of time for reporting to IPEDS • Outside that window but beneficial for overall metrics and state considerations • Information on Subsequent Degree Completion • #/ % of those earning an Associate’s Degree via RT who complete a Bachelor’s Degree compared to those without an Associate’s Degree and those that earned their Associate’s prior to transferring to a 4-yerar institution. • #/ % who completed their Bachelor’s Degree within 150% of the time split by the same 3 comparison groups from the previous measure.
