What is Relay For Life? • High spirited 16 hours overnight event (sundown to sunrise) • Teams of friends, coworkers, family and neighbours take turns to walk around the track • Participants camp out together to create a community party atmosphere What else do we do at Relay? • On-going entertainment, activities, food bazaar, performances, etc.

  3. OBJECTIVE • To celebrate the lives of cancer survivors • To raise public awareness about cancer • To raise funds to fight against cancer

  4. Why We Relay? • CELEBRATE the strength of Cancer Patients & Survivors. • Give HOPE & SUPPORT to those undergoing treatment • REMEMBER loved ones who lost the battle • FIGHT BACK! Together, as a community, help spread • the message on CANCER AWARENESS & PREVENTION

  5. Significance of Walking the Track Overnight? • To symbolize the journey of a cancer patient. • - from daylight to darkness (fear when diagnosed) • - from darkness to sunrise (hope after treatment)

Luminaria Ceremony • Happens at dusk • To honor cancer survivors and remember those who have lost their battle with cancer • Small bag filled with sand holding a small candle • When candle is lit it gives a warm golden glow • Luminaries are placed side by side around the track • Remain lit throughout the night to light the way for the walkers and to create a path of hope

  19. How Did It All Start? • Dr. Gordy Klatt, • Tacoma, Washington (1985) • Walk & Run 24 hours to raise • funds for the American Cancer • Society. He raised USD27,000 • the first year. • He invited his friends to join him the next year. People camped • out and took turns walking the track. • Today, Relay For Life is being held in 22 countries all over the • world.

  22. BE AN ORGANISER!! Be a part of a growing community of RFL Organisers Raise cancer awareness & education within your community Promote early detection through regular check-ups in your community. Encourage your community to participate & fundraise for a good cause.

START A TEAM!! • Get together a group of friends / family / co-workers / • neighbours / classmates • Fill in RFL Registration Form and sign up! • As a Team, you can also help us to fundraise through pledge card • collections or you can organize your own fundraising activity. • Come to Relay For Life.
