Biracial Children • Over 400 biracial children were killed by the Nazis • The Nazis saw colored skin as a disease on German blood • The parents were either murdered or sent to the camps
Black Men and Women • Men were mostly shot on sight • The women were sent to death camps • The stronger men were sent to concentration and transit camps
Josef Nassy • An artist from Paramaribo, Surinam • Moved to America with his Father • Became electrical engineer, job took him to Bulgaria • Him and his wife were captured and sent to a transit camp • His wife was killed • He was in the camp for the remainder of the war(3 years) • He created a visual diary
Were they like the Jews? • The black prisoners were not systematically eliminated • Instead they were just killed
Captured soldiers • Most black soldiers were killed • Only a few were brought to the camps • They were worked to death
Witnesses • The all African American 761st tank battalion • They witnessed what happened to black prisoners • They helped liberate Gunskirchen
Conclusion • There were not many Black Germans, they came from France after WWI • They were mainly shot on sight or beaten • The Nazis called them “Rhinland Bastards”
