TRACKING NOVEMBER 2012 Ann Furminger Head of Service Delivery
What is tracking? • Keeping in touch with young people - ensuring that contact and destination records are up to date • Use this information to target support eg when a young person drops off a course and becomes NEET timely support can be given, or guidance can be offered to a leaver with no September Guarantee offer • Ensure accurate reporting to the DFE for Activity survey, destinations, September Guarantee, NEET and Not Known data
Activity Survey Destination data for last year’s Yr 11 – 14 as at 1st November. Reported to schools and DFE in January of following year Forms part of KCC’s statutory duty – the data is returned to the DFE who use it to produce schools’ destination measures This year new system due to the reduction in CXK resource in schools (due to Education Act changes) Timely collection of data is vital as there is limited time to identify those at risk of disengaging and complete the survey. October census data is received too late to be included.
Leavers and Joiners • Schools have a responsibility to inform KCC/CXK of the details of any student leavers or joiners • Database kept up to date eg. if yp moves out of county or moves to other schools/educational provision again this is recorded and informs future tracking • Tracking enables targeted support to follow the young person
NEETs and Not Knowns • CXK works with all Kent schools, colleges and training providers to keep in touch with all young people and offer targeted support as appropriate • DFE has clear requirements around destinations and tracking of those whose ‘currency has expired’ • NEET and Not Known (NK) data is reported to the DFE and Kent has an enviable reputation for its NK figure (Kent = 2.4%, South East = 6.9%, National = 5.9%)
Thank You Thank you to everyone who has supported and continues to support the process KCC and CXK are currently reviewing tracking systems, what tracking should look like and where responsibility for tracking lies We would like schools to be a part of this review so that a joined up approach can be developed with clear lines of responsibility
