  2. Using Technology in the Classroom • New technologies allow for new forms of learning within the classroom • These technologies have expanded the definition of a “literacy” • A literacy used to be defined as pages of text, now it expands beyond

  3. Video Blogging in the English Classroom • One Example of the new ways technology is being used in the classroom is the use of video blogging.

  4. Video Blogging in the Classroom • Video blogging, also known as Vlogging, is a kind of blog, or online journal, using videos instead of just plain text. Entries can contain embedded videos (from sites like Youtube or Teachertube) and video links, as well as text and other images. • Since Youtube was launched in 2005, video blogging has become increasingly popular, especially among teens. Like basic blogging, video blogging is often used to provide commentary on a particular subject or prompt readers for discussion. Readers can leave comments in the reply/ respond/comment section. • Resources to use for vloging in the classroom: • http://teachers.net/ • http://sclipo.com/blog/?p=102 • http://www.teachersfirst.com/content/blog/blogbasics.cfm

  5. Teacher Web Sites Useful For Posting: • Handouts • Grades • Due Dates • Special Events • Study Tools • Example: https://jweb1.amphi.com/cdo/webclass/index.html • Has many links to various teacher’s web sites • Cost Efficient

  6. PowerPoint Presentations • PowerPoint is a presentation software intended for business purposes • PowerPoint can also be used in a variety of matters from education to sales pitches • Teachers can also use PowerPoint in instruction for: • Lecture Notes • Announcements • Lesson Instructions • Posting Goals and Objectives

  7. Features of PowerPoint • Displays clear, easy-to-read text • Allows placement of hyperlinks to websites and other slides • Allows pictures to accompany text • Creates a clear, smooth, concise way to present content • User-Friendly

  8. Conclusion • Web sites, video blogging and PowerPoint presentations are all incredible teaching resources • When used correctly, these sources can convey one meaning in multiple mediums • These resources are literacies that explain content in a different form than traditional text
