  1. ECMWF DCPC status and plans BaudouinRaoult Head of Meteorological Data Section

  2. ECMWF DCPC - Status • Endorsed by CBS (June 2011) • GISC: WE-VGISC (West-European VGISC) • Metadata available for all essential and additional products

  3. ECMWF DCPC: Data available for global exchange • Dataset is agreed by ECMWF Council • Essential • GH 500, T 850, Wind 850, MSL from deterministic forecasts, as well as EPS means and standard deviations • Additional • WIND at 200, 500 and 700 hPa, Relative humidity at 850 and 700 hPa • Vorticity Divergence at 700 over the tropics. • Wave products • Probabilities (total precipitations, 10m wind gusts and significant wave height) • Tropical Cyclone tracks

  4. ECMWF DCPC: Data available for regional exchange • ACMAD countries • Wind at 925 over Africa • Divergence at 925 and 200 hPa over Africa • 2m temperature, 10m wind and precipitation of Africa • Delivery mechanisms • Data push on GTS • Data available on ECMWF FTP servers • Data distributed by EUMETCAST

  5. ECMWF DCPC: Data for distribution in area of responsibility • Data restricted to Member States, Cooperating States and licensed Commercial or Research organisations • All ECMWF products are available to all Member States and Cooperating States for their official duties • A Council agreed catalogue of product is available for Commercial and Research users • Data are pushed to the user’s machines • Users control their subscription (dissemination requirements) • Destinations, Back-ups, Priorities, Network (Internet vs. RMDCN) • List of products • Post-processing directives (re-gridding, sub-area extraction)

  6. ECMWF DCPC: Archive data • All past ECMWF products are available from the archive • Registered users • Data services (Internet and media deliveries) • Public Data servers (selected datasets only) • Data from many EU projects/WMO collaborations • ERA, ENSEMBLES… • TIGGE, YOTC…

  7. ECMWF DCPC: Metadata data catalogue GeoNetworks with SRU/Z39.50 support (Search/Retrieve via URL)

  8. ECMWF DCPC: Metadata data catalogue (cont.)

  9. ECMWF DCPC: Metadata data catalogue (cont.)

  10. ECMWF DCPC: New developments • Graphical products using OGC/WMS • WMS1.1 • Products are plotted on demand • Access to data value (GetFeatureInfo) • Support for legends • Multiple styles per layers • Formats: PNG, SVG, GIF, PDF, …

  11. ECMWF WMS products in Ninjo (DWD)

  12. ECMWF WMS products in Synopsis (Météo France)

  13. ECMWF WMS products in FlexiWeather (IBL)

  14. Issues with OGC-WMS • No support for multiple time dimension (e.g. Analysis time vs. Forecast time) • Security /access control not part of the standards • Needs to be solved at Network or HTTP level • Handling of date line • No maps can cross the date line

  15. ECMWF DCPC: other activities - TIGGE • Near real-time exchange of global EPS data over the Internet • IDD/LDM, FTP, HTTP • 450 TB/day, 1.5 millions fields • 10 Data providers • 3 Archive Centres • Fields in GRIB2 • Tropical cyclone tracks in CXML (Cyclone XML) • CXML

  16. Current plans • Provide metadata to all partners of the WE-VGISC as soon as required • Integrate OpenWIS development into our GeoNetwork environment • Provide more metadata (e.g. GMES/MACC)
