Letter by the U.P. State Haj Committee to all CMOs in U.P. for compulsory vaccination of Haj pilgrims in response to Saudi directive.
Partnership with U.P. State Haj Committee for vaccination • UPSHC provided a complete list of Haj travelers with addresses for all 70 districts; UNICEF shared the same within the SMNet, WHO, Rotary, CORE & Muslim institutions. The polio partners engaged in intense mobilization with district health officials. • District health departments (a) arranged vaccination; and (b) disseminated information regarding vaccination sites & dates through local media. • UNICEF’s SMNet informed all Haj travelers to avail vaccination through local influencers, mosque announcements and local Urs congregations. Polio partners, health officials, and local religious leaders addressed Haj travelers & their relatives about polio immunization, and the need to protect every child, every time. • Advocacy with Haj travelers was extremely helpful in dispelling misconceptions about OPV & increasing vaccination coverage during the September SIA round; follow-up advocacy will continue with returned pilgrims.
