  2. Who were the Pilgrims? A group of people who came from England for religious freedom.

  3. Why did they want to leave England? The Pilgrims had different religious beliefs from their rulers who wanted everyone to belong to the same church. The Pilgrims wanted freedom to worship God in their own way. They decided to move to the New World otherwise known as America.

  4. How did they get there? On September 1620, the Pilgrims left England on the Mayflower.

  5. How many people were on board? • 102 Passengers • 50 men • 20 women • 32 children How long did it take to arrive? • 66 days!

  6. Where did the Pilgrims arrive? The Pilgrims arrived at Plymouth, Massachusetts. Where is Massachusetts?

  7. What happened when the Pilgrims arrived? • Harsh winter • Many died • Did not have proper shelter • Some people lived on board the Mayflower • Low on food

  8. Did the Pilgrims survive? • In the spring on 1621, the Pilgrims built a few houses. • They began to make Plymouth their new home. YES!!!!

  9. Native Americans • In March 1621, the Pilgrim settlers met a Native American for the first time. • His name was Samoset, he brought the Pilgrims to meet Squanto, a member of the Wampanoag Indian tribe. (Wahm – puh – no – ahg) Wamp-a-whattttttt?!

  10. Did the Pilgrims and Wampanoag Indians get along? • The Pilgrims and Wampanoags signed a treaty (agreement) to help protect each other. • Squanto showed the pilgrim how to… • Plant native corn • Fish • hunt

  11. The First Thanksgiving • In the fall of 1621, the Pilgrims had a good harvest. • They had a celebration to thank God. I’m so excited! I just can’t hide it!!!! Who was invited? The Wampanoags!!!!

  12. What happened at the first Thanksgiving? For three days 52 Pilgrims and 90 Wampanoags ate, danced, and played games. What did they eat? The Pilgrim women baked corn bread and cooked carrots, turnips, onions, and beets. They most likely served fish, geese, ducks, and wild turkeys. The Wampanoags brought five deer for the feast.
