  1. When you or someone else uses a computer or cell phone to cause harm or distress to other kids, this is called Cyberbullying

  2. The Internet can be good • What are some of the positive things that can be gained by using the Internet? • Finding information • Talking to friends and meeting new people • Playing games • What are some others?

  3. Using a computer or cell phone • Some kids like to play games, watch videos, do homework or send messages on a computer or cell phone. • If your parents say this is okay, then you are having fun. • Sometimes someone else’s fun is not fun for you.

  4. Words are powerful • How would you feel if you got messages that said mean things like • “I hate you!” • “You are fat and ugly!” • “I’m going to beat you up!” • When language gets mean or scary and when it’s repeated over and over that’s Cyberbullying

  5. The Internet can be bad • How might it feel if you have a bad experience online? • Upset • Angry • Hurt • Embarrassed • How else might you feel?

  6. Don’t take it, take action • What can you do to stop the cyberbully? • STOP • BLOCK • TELL

  7. STOP • Do not respond or talk back. • Save and print the bully’s emails or message logs.

  8. BLOCK • Block the cyberbully. • Leave the chat room or web site and sign off the computer.

  9. TELL • Talk over how to handle the situation with a friend. • Tell your parents, teacher, or another trusted adult when you or someone else is being cyberbullied.

  10. Remember • Trust your feelings if they are uncomfortable. • Don’t share passwords with anyone except your parents or guardian.

  11. If you are a cyberbully • Think about what you are doing and STOP. • Don’t say it online if you wouldn’t say it to someone’s face. • How would you feel if you were the person being cyberbullied? • Could it happen to you?
