Motivates students to learn since students tend to get excited with the prospect of performing. Cooperation and teamwork Informs and entertains Improves oral language skills Learning across the curriculum It helps develop an appreciation of literature.
Warm ups: Comprehension Chants, Academic Vocab, High Frequency Words (2nd) • Read Aloud (Teacher models the appropriate voice, intonation, pace, andMetacognition strategies using thinking stems. (on wiki) • Read Together (check for understanding and help with difficult words) • -“Put your finger on it and say it with me” • -sky write the word (depends on grade) • - Read it in a sentence. • -What does it mean? (context clues)
Read in Group (sitting down in circle) • Read in Group (standing up adding actions when possible) • Perform script:(Optional and if time allows) Audience reads along while others are performing. • -- 2nd- Whole Group • --3rd – Guided • --4th Independent • --5th Independent • * GT can change ending or add their own. (approved by teacher) • *Alternate scripts - Spanish, shorter scripts with lots of repetition
