My target audience profiling showed that the majority of idol fans are female.
Pink is a very feminine colour. Since I use a lot of the colour pink throughout my magazine, it appeals to the female audience. As pastel colours are common in the genre, it also appeals to all idol fans as the colours make the magazine recognisable.
Since my target audience research showed my audience to be mostly females of age 19-24, by using women in all the images they can relate to them and so this attracts the audience. However, the girls in the images are a bit younger as this is more commonly the age of idols, and also it was easiest for me as I know more people of this age. They all look like idols in the images as they have long hair and bright expressions, giving the image of happiness and innocence and are also dressed fashionably and in light colours with large, eye-catching accessories,. This attracts both idol fans and would fashion conscious girls interested in the magazine. Although the girls are English, they are presented as being English idols, a new part of the genre.
The front cover image uses direct mode of address, which addresses the audience and makes them want to buy the magazine. I also attracted the audience by using vibrant colours and busy patterns and such within the images, which are common in the idol genre.
The coverlines explain both the images and the things in the magazine. For the right side of the magazine, rather than using more coverlines I used the names of separate groups as most people who answered my survey said that they would buy the magazine depending on who’s in it, rather than for the magazine as a whole. By using as many names as possible on the cover, it attracts as many people as possible to buy it. By having a coverline which is a competition for CDs this also attracts the audience as my survey also showed that they prefer CDs to MP3s. The coverline Good Morning Russia comes with a small explanation. Since it is about a very popular group, it appeals to idol fans, and since it is about the Olympics which is something everyone enjoys, it attracts the average person to read about them, too.
My masthead appeals to my audience as it clearly shows that my magazine is about idols. It also uses a range of pastel colours which are common within the idol genre, which also makes it recognisable. Although all the colours are pastel, the word Ai is red, as this would be on the left hand side and so be the most noticeable thing , and since it is the word for love it would attract idol fans, the colour red having connotations with love and passion. This also goes with the hearts, too. These are also rather cute, and generic conventions of the genre to make it further recognisable and attract idol fans.
