Letter of Commitment for Participation in the CalWomenTech Project As members of the CalWomenTech Project Leadership Team and leadership, we, the undersigned, commit to carrying out the following CalWomenTech Project strategies with the goal of increasing the enrollment of female students in the targeted courses by 10% and retaining them at a rate comparable to the males in the courses. • We will attend the two-day CalWomenTech training, which includes the development of a recruitment and retention plan. .

We will incorporate the multi-media recruitment materials and collateral customized specifically for our college into our recruitment efforts. • 3. We will review the lending library of best practice resources and consider the purchase of these non-IWITTS materials. • 4. We will attend follow-up meetings of the CalWomenTech teams every 6-12 months to present progress updates and receive additional training. • 5. We will participate in individualized consultation and technical assistance to the Community College Centers as we implement Project strategies. • 6. We will participate in periodic on-line trainings and informational phone conference calls on specialty topic areas with expert guest speakers and facilitated peer-to-peer technical assistance online. • 7. We will support and encourage the multiple opportunities for peer mentoring on CalWomenTech strategies. • 8. We will participate in facilitated sharing regarding new products developed by our CalWomenTech community college teams as they implement their recruitment and retention plans. • 9. We will participate in dissemination efforts via presentations at statewide and national conferences (which will be funded by CalWomenTech) and via interviews and/or contributions to statewide and national educational media

Plan of Action: Recruitment • The Career Development and Placement Center will: • give female students in their existing courses/counseling sessions a Women in CNIT packet. • host in December a presentation by the CNIT Department on the CalWomenTech initiative and will be provided with CWT posters of female role models and Women in CNIT packets developed by IWITTS. • The Counseling Departments will host a presentation on the CalWomenTech project at their December meeting. • The female students in CNIT 100 Intro to Computers will be sent in November an e-mail announcing the project and the supoort opportunities available.
Plan of Action: Retention • Additional open lab time (for students with less hands-on experience) with a female student as lab assistant • Women Studies Department is proposing a new 12 hour noncredit course on spatial reasoning to assist students in developing 3-D skills. • CNIT also created a large colorful tool identification poster for the classroom and the WomenTech section of CCSF’s website.
