Integrated Learning Outcome • Students will learn the beginning skills of puppetry • Students will collaborate with classmates • Students will use imagination to create their puppet • Students will assess their work using a rubric • Students will work with different colored paper and different drawing utensils

  4. Creative Process: Imagine/Examine/Perceive • The students will learn about Saint Patrick while viewing photos of some common St. Patrick’s Day festivities. • The students will then create a puppet of a leprechaun using their imagination and the rubric. • The students will then work in small groups to fill in the writing script. • The students will have a performance as a group using the puppets, writing script, and rubric.

  5. Creative Process: Explore/Experiment/Develop Craft • Students will have the opportunity, in their groups, to fill in the writing script. They can change the words at anytime, up to the performance. • Students will have time to rehearse their skit and to make any changes they may want. • Students will have time to create their puppet and make changes.

  6. Creative Process:Create Students will have time to create their puppets using the supplies available. Students will have the chance to work one their puppetry skills.

  7. Creative Process: Reflect/Assess/Revise • Students will assess their puppet and performance using the rubric. • Students can then revise to meet the needs of the project • Students also wrote down what they learned about Saint Patrick (I waited about a week for this part).

  8. Creative Process: Time to Share! • Students will have the opportunity to perform their skit in front of their classmates. • Students will discuss, with their classmates, the differences and similarities of their puppets

  11. Summative Reflection: Teacher Comments What I loved! • The students enjoyed the activity. They were able to retain facts from the lesson. I wonder if I…. Had left the students to create their own dialog if they would have enjoyed the lesson more.

  12. This lesson was the result of the work done at the Arts Every Day workshop offered through the Fresno County Office of Education.
