Japanese Internment • Reasons for internment was a anti-Japanese prejudice after Pearl Harbor. • False reporting made people think Japanese Americans were reporting to the enemy
Japanese Americans were “relocated” to internment camps to live. • This internment affected most Japanese on the West Coast. • The Supreme Court approved the move but years later issued an apology and made financial payment to survivors.
Holocaust • Germany’s decision to exterminate all Jews was known as The Final Solution. • It resulted in genocide: the systematic and purposeful destruction of a racial, political, religious, or cultural group.
Hitler targeted: • Jews • Poles • Slavs • Gypsies • “Undesirables” (homosexuals, mentally ill, political dissidents) • (Over 6 million people were killed) • He wanted Aryan Supremacy. An all-white, blond-hair, blue-eyed society.
The Nuremberg Trials • After Camps were liberated, the Nazi’s were held responsible • Nazi’s were convicted of war crimes and the trials emphasized individual responsibility for actions during the war, regardless of orders. • The trials led to an increased demand for a Jewish homeland.
