  1. LEED CERTIFICATION UWFox Communication Arts Center Jim Perry, Campus Executive Officer and Dean

  2. James W. Perry Hall

  3. Lucia Baehman Theatre

  4. Aylward Gallery

  5. Green Construction • 20% post-consumer and pre-consumer recycled materials • Recycled fly ash in concrete

  6. Construction Waste Management • Diverted at least 75% construction waste from landfills (105,000 pounds) • Recycled scrap steel, wood, concrete, cardboard, paper, metals and glass.

  7. Regional Materials • Brick, steel, concrete, glass, aluminum and wood originate within 500 miles • Make up at least 50% of the total construction materials

  8. Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certified Sustainable Wood • Makes up at least 50% of the total wood used on this project • Framing, flooring, wood doors and interior finishes

  9. Energy Efficiency • 30 to 35% more energy efficient than standard construction • High efficiency lighting system • CO2 sensors monitor occupancy and exchange air only as needed • “Fat Spaniel” will monitor renewable energy system and other building systems

  10. Heat Recovery Unit • Uses less energy to heat outside air • 85% recovery of heat in outgoing airstream • Easier on mechanical systems • Heat-exchange core • Air flows in/out in alternate passages • Heat transfers from warm stale air to cool air

  11. Indoor Environment Quality • High indoor air quality with low-VOC-emitting materials • Dynamic thermal environment • “Green cleaning” program is used for maintenance and operations

  12. Drinking Water • Filtered, chilled tap water discourages consumption of bottled water

  13. Water Conservation • Dual Flush Toilet Technology • 40% reduction in water usage exceeds LEEDrequirement by 10%.

  14. Site • Native vegetation • “Low mow” grasses • Water efficient landscaping • Natural storm water filtration • No new parking added

  15. On-Site Renewable Energy • (Pending)Photo voltaic panels to produce 6.3kW electricity • Turbines in water faucets regenerate electricity that powers electric eyes that turn water on and off automatically

  16. Bicycle and motorcycle parking within 200 yards of building entrance • Capacity for at least 5% of building users • Alternative Transportation

  17. Energy-Efficient Transportation • Reserved parking promotes the use of low-emitting/fuel efficient vehicles • 5% of parking stalls and are in preferred locations

  18. Alternative Transportation • Take the bus! • The campus is on 2 bus routes • Helps qualify for the CommunityConnectivityCredit

  19. Light Pollution • Full cut-off dark sky compliant light fixture reduce light pollution.

  20. Thermoplastic Polyolefin Roofing Membrane (TPO) with Insulation • Eliminates heat island effect on roofs • White, so reflects heat from the sun • Reduces cooling needs • Reduces maintenance

  21. Green Roof (Installation Pending) • Roofs designed for weight of roof top gardens • Hardy plants that require no irrigation • Insulates roof, reducesheat island effect • Absorb precipitation, reduces and filters runoff
