2. First of all, what is a stakeholder? • A stakeholder is a person or thing that has an interest in something e.g. the rainforest.

3. Who uses the rainforest and how do they use it? • Tribes-They use it for home and shelter • Eco-tour Operators-they use the rainforest as a tool for education and for them to show people the beauty of the rainforest • Loggers- They use the rainforest as a source of income • Animals-They use the rainforest as a home and for protection • Scientists- They use the rainforest as a way of discovering things (like new plants for medication) that can benefit others • World Government-They try to protect the rainforest and stop things that help destroy it • Conservationists-They use the rainforest as a tool for education and they try to protect it

4. What is their job and what do they do?

5. Tribes living in the Rainforest • They help spread around the seeds of eaten fruit • They eat the fruit then let the animals carry around the seeds, planting more of that species

6. Eco-Tour Operators • They tell people how the rainforest is being threatened and what they can do to help stop this • They take tour groups around and show them the rainforest and how wonderful it is

7. Loggers • Their job is to go into different rainforests and cut down trees • They cut down trees in a way that is bad and damages the rainforest

8. Animals • Animals help spread around seeds for plants and animals • Animals spread around seeds which will make trees and plants grow as well as fruits that tribes in the rainforest can live off

9. Scientists • To go into the rainforests and try to find good uses for new plant specimens • They find new plant species then use them in experiments to see if they can be used for medicine or something like that

10. World Government • Help with world environmental issues • Ask countries to sign agreements that say that their particular country will stop creating AS many greenhouse gases

11. Conservationists • They try extremely hard to make people stop mining logging etc in the rainforests • They do protest and start organisations that help save the rainforest and the environment like Greenpeace

12. What are the rights and responsibilities of these stakeholders?

Tribes that live in the rainforests: Responsibilities • To help distribute plants and seeds so that species can keep growing • To only take what they need and nothing more Rights • To not have their home cut down • To be able to find food fairly easily • To have water • To feel protected in their home • To have clothes

Eco-Tour Operators Responsibilities • Not pollute the rainforest • Educate people • Be role models • But local goods but not things that are made from endangered animals/are ruining the population of a certain specie • To respect the laws that try to protect the rainforest and follow them • Write laws to protect rainforests Rights • Tell people off when they’re littering • Educate people • Access and enter the rainforest (under conditions) • Show tourists the beauty of the rainforests and tell them why they are unique/special • To have a job

15. Loggers Responsibilities • To log sustainably • To log in designated areas (not in illegal areas) • To not make rainforests diminish faster then they already are Rights • To have a job • To make money • To be able to support themselves and their families well • To not be punished for trying to make money

Animals Responsibilities • To not hunt animal species into near extinction • To keep spreading around seeds for food purposes • To protect their families/themselves • To protect the forest from other threats Rights • To feel protected in their home • To always have food • To have shelter in their home • For their home itself to stay safe • To not be poached for their skin/fur

Scientists Responsibilities • To not move/change around any areas of the rainforest e.g. plant fruit where animals are trying to sleep • Not to disturb the wildlife inside the rainforests • To respect how the rainforest and to not do anything to pollute it Rights • To be able to explore the rainforest (with conditions) • To be allowed to observe different species but make NO contact • To be granted permission to explore different parts of the rainforest in order to look for new plant species

World Governments Responsibilities • To reduce greenhouse gases and the burning of fossil fuels in other countries • To protect the rainforests and what’s left of them Rights • To be allowed to request countries to reduce greenhouse gases • To be allowed to try and pay countries to protect their rainforests • To put in the Kyoto (international agreement against greenhouse emissions) into place

19. Conservationists Responsibilities • To be able to protect the rainforest and everything in it • To not stand by and watch the environment along with it’s rainforests be destroyed Rights • To be able to at least TRY to protect the rainforests • To be able to protest against non-environmental projects (things that hurt the environment and it’s rainforests) and not get in trouble for it

20. Effects What happens if these rights and responsibilities are not fulfilled?

Tribes that live in the rainforest What happens if the stakeholder does not fulfill their responsibilities? • The rainforest and the species within it will diminish faster than before because seeds of plants aren’t being distributed What happens if their rights aren’t met? • The tribe will die out • People will forget about them

Eco-Tour Operators What happens if the stakeholder does not fulfill their responsibilities? • Rainforests will be in even worse conditions • Different species will perish faster What happens if their rights aren’t met? • People will forget how they should treat/behave in the rainforest • People will forget how important rainforests are

23. Loggers What happens if the stakeholder does not fulfill their responsibilities? • The rainforests will disappear faster than anticipated What happens if their rights aren’t met? • They can’t help/support themselves or their families

24. Animals What happens if the stakeholder does not fulfill their responsibilities? • More animal species will die out • More plant/fruit species will die out What happens if their rights aren’t met? • Animals could become more aggressive because of the stress from everything happening around them

25. Scientists What happens if the stakeholder does not fulfill their responsibilities? • Animals could start acting up because scientists have made with the animals and they’ve reacted badly What happens if their rights aren’t met? • Cures for diseases that could’ve been found would’ve disappeared because scientists couldn’t explore and look for them

26. World Government What happens if the stakeholder does not fulfill their responsibilities? • Rainforests won’t be protected at ALL anymore! What happens if their rights aren’t met? • Rainforests will have even MORE threats working against the existence of them!

27. Conservationists What happens if the stakeholder does not fulfill their responsibilities? • Rainforests simply WON’T exist anymore What happens if their rights aren’t met? • No one will be there to help the rainforests exist

28. There’s still hope! What can be done to prevent rights and responsibilities being ignored?

29. Tribes~ • The government have been trying to make “peaceful” contact with tribes so that they can help them

30. Eco-Tour Operations~ • More people can become involved and make it so that they’re (as a group) much harder to ignore and forget about

31. Loggers~ • To dedicate SOME areas of the rainforest with trees to loggers and tell them they can’t go outside that area and if they do BIG consequences

32. Animals~ • We could make sanctuary's which would make certain areas in the rainforest NO-GO ZONES!

33. Scientists~ • Form an organisation/group to be set up with guides and scientists working together so that they can explore the rainforest and be trusted at the same time

34. World Government~ • Everyone can become involved and try to influence the decisions the countries were making and make themselves very difficult to be ignored when supporting the environment

35. Conservationists~ • Get some famous/influential people to support their cause and soon others will probably support them as well
