FPA contamination analysis • Proposal: • Verify that no contamination is currently present in the FPA detector assembly of GOME-2 for Metop-B&C (or identify the substances). • Method: • By evacuating the N2-gas of the FPA-assembly and applying Gas-Chromatograph analysis (TBC).
FPA contamination analysis • Essential information for taking decisions for Gome-2 on Metop-B&C wrt. the instrument. (e.g. if substance originate from detector assembly). • Knowledge on chemical composition in support of analysis to support/contradict the available theories. • Assumption: • Initial detector out-gassing test was not fully representative • Test environment was to cold and test to short • Too few molecules released under this conditions and • It was not applied to flight instrument/FPA
FPA contamination analysis • Advantage • A standard procedure for GOME-2 on-ground operation can be used (valve and connector are available) • Ensure that no contamination is present before launch on flight hardware (FPA) or indentify the substance if any present. • With understanding of clean FPA/knowledge of substances reduce number of theories (clean FPA?) • Difficulties may arise from capturing the N2 gas-probe
