Physical Characteristics • Endothermic, feathers; 2 legs with scales, wings, hollow bones • 2 types of feathers • Contour feathers—flight • Down feathers– warmth and waterproofing
Feeding • Very efficient digestive system • Beak is adapted for food • No teeth • Mouth esophagus crop stomach gizzard intestines cloaca • Gizzard part of stomach • Some birds regurgitate food from crop to feed young
Excretion • Cloaca reabsorbs water so waste becomes white paste • Kidneys filter waste from blood
