EUROPEAN TECHNOLOGY PLATFORMS Provide a framework for stakeholders, led by industry, to define research and development priorities Play a key role in ensuring an adequate focus of research funding on areas with a high degree of industrial relevance Play a significant role by mobilising public authorities at national and regional levels. Foster effective public-private partnerships (PPP)

POLISH TECHNOLOGY PLATFORMS • National Technology Platforms - Polish initiative since 2004 • Currently 29 Polish Technology Platforms • Correlated to European Technology Platforms
OBJECTIVES OF POLISH TECHNOLOGY PLATFORMS • Active participation in European Technology Platforms • Active role in development of Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) • Participation in working groups, steering committees… • Transfer of Polish initiatives to ETP • Preparation of joint proposals, initiatives • Participation in FP7 collaborative projects • Participation in Joint Technology Initiatives, ERA-Nets and other European initiatives
OBJECTIVES OF POLISH TECHNOLOGY PLATFORMS • Active participation in preparation of National Strategic Research Agenda • Active role in development of Sectorial National Strategic Resaerch Agenda • Cooperation with Ministry of Research and National Research and Development Center • Participation in national strategic research projects,Polish Framework Programme • Participation in foresight activities • Optimal use of structural funds (67 billion euro), in particular from „Innovative Economy Operational Programme”
OBJECTIVES OF POLISH TECHNOLOGY PLATFORMS • Active participation in regional development • Active role in development of Regional Innovation Strategies, Regions of Knowledge • Cooperation with regional industial and technology clusters • Participation in joint technology and research projects • Optimal use of structural funds at regional level, in particular from Regional Operational Programmes
POLISH TECHNOLOGY PLATFORMS The representatives of PTPs are members of European Platforms’ bodies (e.g. Mirror Group, Advisory Group, Steering Comittee, Steering Board) and prepare Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) and Work Programmes for the particular Themes of FP7.

BEST PRACTICIESPOLISH PLATFORM FOR HOMELAND SECURITY • During numerous meetings, conferences and seminars many major and minor obstacles and shortcomings both in law system and day-to-day procedure has been identified and corrected. • However some of them has been more of a technical nature and it was then when the idea of inviting engineers to this gremium was formulated for the very first and was a preludium for the PPBW establishing.
BEST PRACTICIESPOLISH PLATFORM FOR HOMELAND SECURITY Nowadays within PPBW there are 15 projects going on, among them one that is financed from the 7th Framework Programme. The total budget for all research projects overcome the sum of 50 M Euro and the number of people involved in the works of PPBW is more than 1000. The current financing horizon for research activities is year 2012.

BEST PRACTICIESPOLISH TECHNOLOGY PLATFORM FOR AERONAUTICS • The Aviation Valley Association was started on April 11, 2003, as a non-profit organization, as a means to furthering the rapid development and growth of the aerospace industry in southeastern Poland. • This historic decision was conceived by a group of leading aeronautic producers, suppliers and businessmen. • Significant funding for the Association has been provided by Pratt & Whitney, a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines, space propulsion systems and industrial gas turbines.

BEST PRACTICIESPOLISH TECHNOLOGY PLATFORM FOR MOBILE AND WIRELESS COMMUNICATION • Polish Platform on Mobile Communications and Wireless Technology was founded on 4th February 2005. • It associates companies, R&D institutions as well as SMEs to foster collaborative R&D undertakings and profit from financial resources dedicated to R&D projects available both in Poland and Europe. • It aims at increasing the potential of Poland and Polish companies in mobile services, applications and technologies in order to support economic development and creation of a mobile, open and democratic society.
