  3. Beginning in the mid-200s B.C., ancient Romewas able to conquer and control other lands as a result of their strong military and fair treatment of conquered peoples.

  4. By 44 B.C., ancient Rome had conquered and controlled Spain, Gaul, Italy, Greece, Macedonia, and parts of Britain, North Africa, and Asia Minor, . . .

  5. . . . becoming an empire.

  6. The Roman Empire’s political system was an example of a strong central government, led by an emperor. Emperor Augustus Emperor Tiberius Emperor Caligula

  7. Beginning with Emperor Augustus in 27 B.C., the Roman Empire experienced PaxRomana, which was 207 year period of peace and prosperity.

  8. During this time, the Roman Empire grew wealthy by developing an extensive trade network around the Mediterranean Sea. Roman road network

  9. The Roman Empire opposed other religious groups in the empire, such as followers of Judaism and Christianity.

  10. The Roman Empire forced the Jews to disperse from their homeland (called the Jewish Diaspora), as a result of their constant revolts, . . .
