  2. Base component of a term • Can identify which part of the body a term relates to • Ex: card = heart • hemat = blood • neur = nerve • pneum = lung Root Words

  3. Modifying component located at the BEGINNING of a word • ex: xero = dry skin • dipl = double • sud = under Prefix

  4. Modifying component of a term located at the END of a word • Ex: derma = skin • opia = vision • lingu = tongue Suffix

  5. Completes the connection of the different word parts (prefixes and suffixes) Ex: pneum (lung) + thorax (chest) CV = O pneum(o)thorax = pneunothorax Cardio+my+(o)+pathy = Cardiomyopathy Combining Vowels ( CV )
