1. Indian Independence and the By: Bryan Ramirez Bus Boycott

2. Bus Boycott The black community and MLK goal was to stop segregation between blacks and whites. The African Americans also wanted to be integrated with the whites. They were trying to get the busses integrated. By doing this they were refusing to use the bus service and finding a new type of transportation. They would either walk, ride a bike, or carpool.

3. Indian Independence Gandhi goal was to gain independence for India. To accomplish this goal he gathered all Indians and did various types of things. Like Boycotts, protest, strike, civil disobedience, and non cooperation.

4. Tactics & Strategies For Indian Independence Forms of activism Gandhi used were boycotts, protest/demonstrations, civil disobedience, strike, and noncooperation. These are all things Gandhi and his people done to gain Independence. Example is when they did a national pray and fast day which is a form of strike. When Gandhi refused to pay go to jail and pay 100 rubies is a form of noncooperation. Gandhi wanted Indians to stop buying British cloth and to make their own which is a form of boycott and it is using one of his philosophies swadeshi. Another example of a boycott is the Salt March which shows Swadeshi and is another form of boycott. All of what Gandhi did is a form of protest.

5. Bus Boycott Tactics and Strategies Forms of activism MLk used were boycotts, protest/demonstrations, civil disobedience, and non cooperation. These all things the black community and MLK did to be integrated with the whites. They used these forms of activism by gathering the black community and protesting. Telling them to boycott the system and to find a new type of transportation. They did this by non cooperating with the busses so they will go out of business. MLK and the black community boycotted until their demands are met.

6. British Government Response to Indians protesting against them. • The British used violence against them ( Example The Amritsar Massacre). • They arrested them for protesting ( Example when Gandhi was protesting he was arrested many times). • Limiting self rule (Example is when they wouldn't let Gandhi ride anywhere he wants in his own counrty).

U.S Government response to Martin Luther King JR. and the Black Community activism. • Violence towards the black community ( Example is when they were protesting the police officers will come and attack them). • Threats toward MlK and other leaders of the movement. ( Example is when they bombed MLK`s house). • They'll makes lies about activist leaders on the newspaper (MLK STF 5-6).

8. Resolution of India independence In the end India gained independence. It was separated into two countries. Pakistan and India. It was successful because they gained their independence.

9. Resolution on Bus boycott In the end it was a success. The Black community and MLK achieved their goal and are now they can ride anywhere in the bus. And soon enough black and whites will come as one and will be integrated.

10. Vocabulary: • Swadeshi - Self Sufficiency. • Ahimsa - Love for all including your enemies. • Satyagraha - Resistance through self-sacrifice. • Protest/Demonstration - Verbally object a statement or action expressing disapproval of or objection to something. • Noncooperation -Not cooperating with something you are against until demands are met. • Boycott -To refuse to use a public service or private company until demands are met. • Civil Disobedience -Refusal to obey a certain law. • Strike - A form of protest that refuses to work organized by a body of employees typically in an attempt to gain more.
