  1. YEAR END INVENTORY

  2. TEXT : 2 CORINTHIANS 13:5 5 Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?

  3. Inventory allows us to determine; -What we have, -What we are lacking, -What we have accomplished, -What we failed to do, and -What are the areas that need attention for the coming year.

  4. How can I have a fresh start? (2018 New Year’s Message) S - Stop making excuses T - Take an inventory of my life A - Act in faith R - Refocus my thoughts T - Trust God.

  5. Paul says: “Examine yourselves…” Let us examine or take inventory to ourselves: I. A LOOK AT THE PAST (Reflection where you were)

  6. Two ways to look at the past: 1. Count your blessings Psalm 116:12 - What shall I render to the LORD for all his benefits to me? Psalm 103:2 - Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.

  7. 2. Examine the Negative Aspects A. Examine the Negative Aspects Trials—teaches us patience and compassion

  8. JAMES 1:2-3 2My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials,  3knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.

  9. Failures—teaches us the value of confession 1 John 1:8-10 8If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 

  10. 9If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  10If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

  11. II. A LOOK AT THE PRESENT (Where are you now) Need to be Examine: Examine Your Attitude b. Examine Your Action - (Act in faith) -Is your light shining?

  12. c. Examine Your Influence Matthew 5:16 (NLT) In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

  13. d. Examine Your Love Luke 10:27 27 So he answered and said, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’ ”

  14. e. Examine Your Prayer Life Philippians 4:6-7 6Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;  7and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

  15. f. Examine Your Bible Study Habits Hebrews 10:25 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

  16. III. A LOOK TO THE FUTURE

  17. Bible characters and the resolutions they made: Daniel 1:8– 8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself

  18. Genesis 28:10-22 Jacob resolved to bring his tithe to the Lord. David made two resolutions: Psalms 116:2 - Because He has inclined His ear to me,Therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live.

  19. TEST: The only measure by which we can see how we are doing is by scripture. 1. Improvements; be careful, pride may set in 2. Mistakes: find out why they were made 3. Trials; perseverance is the result of trials

  20. James 1:2-42My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials. Whether we pass or fail the test the next step is;

  21. PRAY: Three things we ought to pray for 1. Forgiveness for our failures 2. Strength for our future 3. Love that is perfect; eyes to see, ears to hear, and a heart that is after God.

  22. There’s a poem - Another year is dawning- a path unknown untried ‘Twould fill me with foreboding, had I no hand to guide But he who walked beside me all through the yesteryear Whatever may betide me, promised to be near

  23. Another year with Jesus, Ah then no dread I know His love is ever precious, how ‘er the winds may blow E’en when the storm is fiercest, in Him my soul may rest And find sweet peace and comfort upon his lovely breast Another year to trust him-yes I can trust him still

  24. Who has never yet failed me-as I have sought his will His rod and staff he giveth me, to be my strength and stay And tenderly he leadeth along the homeward way.
