Objectives • Utilizing formative assessment for the benefit of both the student and the teacher to reflect and learn. • Have a better understanding of what the common core looks like in the gymnasium and how to use it. • How to incorporate technology
#1. Why use Formative Assessment? • Activate prior background knowledge (see where they stand at the beginning of a unit) • Used typically at the end of a new idea or concept • Fancy check for understanding. How do you know they really understood? • Not used for a grade
Formative Assessment Cont. • Teacher- re-teach, make changes, reuse lesson, certain groups got it they can help others…etc. • Student- forces to pause, reflect meaningfully with new info. Unlikely to retain info. w/o time to pause and apply it to self, others, and the real world around them. Result = learning and placed into easily accessible archives in the brain.
