  1. S40-20081201-006 3GPP2 TSG-S WG1/WG4 FEID Format Source: QUALCOMM Incorporated Contact(s) Anand Palanigounder (apg@qualcomm.com) Recommendation: Discuss and adopt

  2. Femto Device identity • TSG-S WG4/WG1 have been discussing suitability various formats for FEID • Femto Equipment Identifier (FEID) • TSG-S WG4 needs FEID as the device identity for device authentication • Femto AP authorization decisions also made by the network using this identify • This contribution proposes an alternate format for FEID to conclude this discussion

  3. FEID Format Requirements • Globally unique device identity that uniquely identifies the FAP • FAP manufacturer should be able to assign identifiers locally • Device identity is provisioned by the manufacturer of the FAP and composed of: • a globally unique manufacturer identity and • an identity local to the manufacturer ( e.g. serial number) • Attribute in device certificate contains the device identity

  4. Formats Considered • MEID format • Use MEID assignment procedures for FEID but with it’s own distinct address space • IEEE hardware Address • Can be one of the 3 numbering spaces • MAC-48, EUI-48 and EUI-64 • EUI: Extended Unique Identifier • First 3 bytes assigned by IEEE (OUI) • OUI – Organizationally Unique Identifier • OUI identifies the manufacturer • The rest (3 or 5 bytes) administered by the manufacturer • EUI-64 encompasses both MAC-48/EUI-48

  5. Proposal • We propose that EUI-64 is adopted as the format for FEID • Flexible and already in use for identification of wide range of devices
