Kite Runner:Chapter 13 Colleen & Kara
Motifs • Adding on to the eye motif, on page 168 General Taheri says, “Amir jan, as for you, I welcome you to my home as a son, as the husband of my daughter who is the noor or my eye.” • On page 174 Amir starts recounting the dream of Baba wrestling the bears which represents his struggles in life, and what he has went through. • On page 179 Soraya explains how she was viewed as a bad person for doing what she did with her boyfriend out of wedlock.
Plot Points • The proper wedding between Soraya and Amir • Soraya’s previous years where she ran away with another man • Baba’s death shortly after the service • Soraya and Amir begin there life as a married couple • Amir finishes his first novel • Soraya finds out that she is sterile and can’t have a baby
Significant Quote • “And I could almost feel the emptiness in Soraya’s womb, like it was a living, breathing thing. It had seeped into our marriage, that emptiness, into our laughs, and our love making. And late at night, in the darkness of our room, I’d feel it rising from Soraya and settling between us. Sleeping between us. Like a newborn child” (189). This is hinting at the fact that Amir and Soraya are maybe going to have a baby. This also connects Soraya to Sanabaur because they both cannot have a baby, but some how get one anyway.
