  2. Maritime Prepositioning Force (Future) Platform Description 3 MLP 2 T-LHA(R) • Capable of at-sea arrival and assembly of forces • Selective offload of equipment sets to meet Seabasing mission requirements • Supports forward engagement and forcible entry • MPF(F) Shipping will not count as AE Shipping • MPF(F) by design is not assault echelon shipping; therefore, MPF(F) forces are not forcible entry capable 3 T-AKE 1 T-LHD 3 T-AKR 2 Legacy T-AK Program Status/Issues Concept of Employment • CDD Incremental Development • 1 MLPs and T-AKEs • JCB 13 Feb 2008 - Approved • JROC approval March 2008 • DAB approval Jun2 2008 • 2 Big Decks - Naval staffing/R3B/JROC TBD • 3 LMSRs • Begins Naval staffing Jan 2009 • R3B Mar 2009 • JROC Jun 2009 • Program of Record is for 14 ships • IOC (FY17), FOC (FY22) • LHD/T-AKs (AE/MSC) (3) platforms from existing ships • Studies: C4I/LMSR/Interoperability/Manning 15

  3. Experimentation Focus LMSR Arrival and Assembly • Objective: Conduct Arrival & Assembly (A&A) vehicle throughput operations of select PEIs aboard LMSR. • Task: Conduct Marshaling and Staging from vehicle stowage areas to debark area. • Condition: At-sea SS 0-2 using LSD/INLS combination as MLP surrogate. • Why: Concept to doctrine – develop tactics, techniques and procedures for sea-based MPF(F) ops. LMSR design modeling and simulation – and Performance Specification (PSPEC) LMSR to validate modifications. • Requirements: • 82 PAX • 75 PEI • 10 Day window needed to complete experimentation New Build Modified Design MLP Test Article Vehicle Transfer System Clean Sheet Design • Objective: Conduct testing on prototype Test Article Vehicle Transfer System (TAVTS). • Task: Conduct equipment and personnel transfer from LMSR to MLP • surrogate. • Condition: Pierside/calm water and at-sea SS 0-3 using a MLP surrogate. • Why: Risk mitigation and validate MLP Performance Specification (PSPEC) . • Requirements: • 20 vehicles of various types including tracked and wheeled with • operators. 18
