OPDS (Offshore Petroleum Distribution System) • Operating Limits: • water depths of 35 – 200 ft • 1.5 knot currents, 16 knot winds • sea bottom made up of sand, mud, coral (not rock) • Planning Factors: • 48 hrs to convert craft • 48 hrs after tanker arrival, deliver 1.2 MG/20 hr day using 4 point mooring • 7 days after tanker arrival to have SALM system operational intended for 180 day installation • 5 OUB’s on each tanker (1 repair barge, 3 tow tugs, 1 dive boat) • BTU (Beach Termination Unit) each tanker carries 2 (crew size 4) • SALM will survive 55 knot winds

Elevated Causeway System (ELCAS(M) ) • Crew Size: • Erection: 120 (2-60 man crews) • Operation: 54 (2-27 man crews) • SLWT: 32 (4-8 man crews) • Length: Goal: Pier Head outside of surf zone with at least 20 ft. depth of water. • Description: 8’x 40’x 5’ (pontoon) modular sections cantilevered over the water • Operational Requirements: (Erect 3000 ft. in 7 days) • handle cargo from both sides of pier head • erect from shore using cantilever erection with 175 ton cranes • operate in sea state 3 (5ft waves) , survive sea state 5 (12 ft waves) • beach gradient (not less than 1:24 or greater than 1:300)
Elevated Causeway System (ELCAS(M) ) • Planning Factors: • 20 ft at pier head • prefer soft bottom (sand/clay) • need shore side area for staging, marshalling, logistics • bottom of roadway pontoon 7 ft above mean high water • Modular BF: • 3 pontoons wide x 3 pontoons long (24 x 120 w/o powered section, carry up to 298,000 lbs) • 5 pontoons wide x 3 pontoons long (40 x 120 w/o powered section, carry up to 498,000 lbs) • Used to carry cranes, pontoons, pile bins

Elevated Causeway System (ELCAS(M) ) • Marshalling Yard (7 areas): (Crew: 44, 22 man shifts at 12 hrs each) • Receiving staging, used for inspecting pontoons • Storage for 20’ ISO’s containing ELCAS(M) components • Equipment Storage/Maintenance • Staging Pontoons and Piles (Beach Ramp Location) • Welded Pile Stowage, Pile Welding Stations • Pile bin stowage • Pontoon Stowage • Pile Size: 24” OD (1/2” thickness) steel piles in 38 ft length ( fits in ISO containers)
Elevated Causeway System (ELCAS(M) ) • Installation: • Bring ELCAS (M) materials ashore using 3 or 5 wide MCWF or other lighterage • Prepare marshalling areas and beach ramp site. Beach ramp hole is 79 ft back from high-water mark and 7 ft above above high water mark. • (6) P40G Pontoon sections (3 wide x 2 long) are placed for beach ramp. Maintain 7.5o angle. 6 piles are used to secure ramp. Piles are cut 3 ft above deck. • Roadway consists of 3 wide P40G pontoons (201 for 3000 ft). Transition from beach ramp to roadway is via 9 angled connectors. Fasten 2 pontoons side by side, lift them into place, cantilevered out, add third section. • Construct pier head once the proper distance is obtained. Pier head piles are cut 2 inches below the deck level. Pierhead crane piles cut 1 inch above deck level. (Specific pontoons in certain locations) • The turntables, lights, throughput cranes. (installation of 175 ton cranes), navigation lights, life lines, nets, life ring buoys (every 80 ft opposite sides) • OPS: The turned tractor trailer is loaded on the turntable. Vehicle traffic is on the left hand side.
