Plyform sidewalls thickness A.Brez INFN Pisa. The sidewall –X were made by Plyform with 12 plies of K13D2U-CE3-116/33 and 2 layers of SF-YS90A-75/CE3, 75GSM, 40%RC. The nominal thickness of the k13D ply is 116/.67/1.75=99 m m (assuming r =1.75 gcm -3 )

Tray 19 -X +X Tray 1 Mini-sidewall Mini-sidewall Plyform has laminated 2 sidewalls and 2 mini-sidewalls together. The thickness of the sidewall –X has been measured along the blue dashed lines.
Conclusions • The sidewalls thickness in the center of the laminate is close to the nominal one (1.37mm vs 1.33mm). • There is a ~7cm frame all around in which the laminate thickness decreases (minimum thickness 1.26mm on the top left corner). • This thickness decrease is due to a resin loss. • The amount of resin loss can be optimized: • A top Al plate, 6mm thick, has been used. This plate could have increased the resin loss area. • Optimization of the vacuum valves positions has to be implemented. • The resin loss is the reason of the Plyform tests discrepancies: they laminate small areas to do the prepreg tests.
