Senior Class Meetings SEPTEMBER 10 – Activity Period OCTOBER 15 – Activity Period NOVEMBER 26 – Activity Period JANUARY 30 – Activity Period
GPA (Grade Point Average) • The week after Labor Day • This GPA will include grades from 8th grade, if a Carnegie unit was received, and 9th – 11th grades. • CLASS RANK • Sometimes a scholarship be limited to students who fall within the top 5% or 10% of their graduating class. GPA / RANK Sunshine, Suzy GPA 4.0 / Rank 1/425
TRANSCRIPTS Six semester transcripts will be available for seniors by mid-September. Included will be courses, grades and credits for each semester of high school GPA (reflecting 6 semesters) Class Rank ACT Scores
TRANSCRIPTS (CONT’D) Transcripts will be reprinted during the first couple of weeks in January to reflect first semester grades and any change in GPA/Rank as a result of the additional grades. A new GPA / Class Rank label will be provided to each student The new GPA/ Class Rank will be included on this copy of the transcript Updated ACT scores will also be added to the transcript. You can mail in an application without a transcript.

ACT If your child has not taken the ACT, he/she should take it during first semester of senior year. MCHS will NOT be a test center site this year.
CHOOSING A COLLEGE College Visits Seniors are allowed two college visits during the year. These will be considered school-related absences. Procedure: Obtain a College Visitation form from Student Services. The form must be turned in to the counselor a minimum of 7 days prior to the visit. Upon return to campus, students must give counselor verification from the college/university. It should be on letterhead, signed and dated.
COLLEGE APPLICATIONS • By the first of October, students should have their college choices narrowed to five or less. • Download application from the college’s website. • Common Application – can be completed online at www.commonapp.org and send copies to any of the universities that accept it. • Terms to be familiar with include: • Early Action – not binding • Early Decision – binding – may apply to only one early decision college Applications should be mailed no later than December 1
MCHS COLLEGE FAIR Tuesday, September 25 6:30 UNTIL 8 pm IN THE CAFETORIUM Colleges from around the area will be here to give out information and answer all of your questions.
SCHOLARSHIPS A financial award that doesn’t have to be repaid and is based upon specific accomplishment and/or situations. • ACT – determined by composite score • MERIT BASED – may be scholarship or grant and are based on a student’s academic, athletic, artistic ability or other skills • NEED BASED – based on family’s income in relation to the expected cost of attending a college • COMMUNITY SERVICE • PRIVATE COMPANIES/ ORGANIZATIONS Remember that college apps have a checkbox on the application that will indicate your wish to be considered for any possible scholarship.
