  3. Objectives • Understand the importance and characteristics of collaborative teaming • Identify team roles and responsibilities • Identify how to support team members • Articulate a vision that will guide your team’s mission statement

  4. Benchmarks of Quality • #1 Team has broad representation • #2 Team has administrative • support • #3 Team has regular meetings (at least monthly) • #4 Team has established a clear • mission/purpose

  6. School-Based ESD Team • Research indicates that effective teams score higher on the Benchmarks of Quality (BoQ). • ---Cohen, 2005 • Establishing a foundation for collaboration and operation is the first step in sustaining long-term change.

  7. How Do We Ensure our ESD Team Has Broad Representation

  8. A School-Based ESD Team • Includes 5-8 participants • Considers representatives such as administrators, general education teachers, special education teachers, school counselors, bus drivers, parents…

  9. A School-Based ESD Team • Includes team members with behavior expertise (e.g., school psychologists, behavior specialists/analysts, or counselors)

  10. What Does Administrative Support to Our ESD Team Look Like

  11. Administrators’ Rolesand Responsibilities • Administrators should play an active and visible role in the school-wide ESD change process. • Administrators should actively communicate their commitment to the process.

  12. Administrators’ Rolesand Responsibilities • Administrators should be familiar with school’s current data and reporting system. • If administrators are not committed to the change process, it is unwise to move forward in the process.

  15. ESD Team Roles • Facilitator • Encourager • Recorder • Timekeeper • Observer • Agenda Keeper

ESD Team Responsibilities • Develop the school-wide ESD action plan • Monitor behavior data • Hold regular team meetings (at least monthly) • Maintain communication with staff and coach • Evaluate progress and monitor fidelity of implementation • Report outcomes to Coach and Division Coordinator

Frequency of ESD Meetings • During initial planning, teams may need to meet more often (weekly) • Team should meet at least once a month to: • Analyze existing data • Make changes to the existing database • Problem-solve solutions to critical issues • Begin to outline actions for the development of a plan

  24. Team Mission Statement Example • The mission of our ESD team is to promote a culture that fosters prevention and mutual respect for faculty, staff and students.

If none, decide upon and record. • Develop team goal or mission: Why are you meeting as a team and what will keep you going throughout the school year? • Complete team roster
