  2. Think and respond to this… Have you ever made an assumption about a person or thought you had an idea about a person because they looked, spoke, or had a different opinion than you? What happened? What would you have changed about that experience?

  3. Starter Activity • Write about a time you witnessed discrimination or was discriminated against, and reflect on your reaction to it. • 10 minutes • 10 sentences

  4. Groups Discriminated Against Group Division: You are going to choose a partner. You and your partner are going to choose a slip of paper with one of these groups. • Blacks • Women • LGBT • Little People • Elderly • Muslims • Disabilities • Immigrants

What your presentation should look like… • Slide 1: Identify the group • Slides 2-4: Historical context of how the group came to the United States and how their discrimination came to be • Slides 5-6: Positive Myths/Stereotypes • Slides 7-8: Negative Myths/Stereotypes • Slides 9-10: Truths about this group • Slides 11-12: Hate Crimes associated with this group • Slides 13-14: Monumental court cases with this group • Slides 15-16: Laws passed to prevent this discrimination • Slide 17: Why is there still discrimination of this group? • Slide 18-21: Solutions (3) • Slides 22-23: Group reflection on discrimination

Your PowerPoint in Detail… • Slides 2-4: Historical context of how the group came to the United States and how their discrimination came to be • When did your group come to the United States? • How were they received? • How have they been discriminated against? • Who has discriminated against them?

  10. Your PowerPoint in Detail… • Slides 9-10: Truths about this group • What are the actual truths about this group? • What are facts that people wouldn’t normally know about this group?

  11. Your PowerPoint in Detail… • Slides 11-12: Hate Crimes associated with this group • Find two instances where there has been a crime committed by this group that could be considered or is considered Hate Crimes

  12. Your PowerPoint in Detail… • Slides 13-14: Monumental court cases with this group • Find two court cases in which your group has fought for their rights • If you cannot find cases regarding your group, find cases that are closely related to the rights of this particular group

  13. Your PowerPoint in Detail… • Slides 15-16: Laws passed to prevent this discrimination • Find two laws that have been passed to prevent this group from being discriminated against • One law must directly address this particular group, the other law could have to do with this group and others

  14. Your PowerPoint in Detail… • Slide 17: Why is there still discrimination of this group? • You are to address THREE factors (your group has determined) contributing to the continual discrimination of this group

Your PowerPoint in Detail… • Slide 18-21: Solutions (3) • Your group is to come up with three solutions to attack discrimination: • An Event • What is the event called? • Where will this event be held? • How is this going to assist in stopping discrimination? • An Advertisement • Could be a print at or a commercial • A Charity • What would be its name? • What would its proceeds go to doing?

  16. Your PowerPoint in Detail… • Slides 22-23: Group reflection on discrimination • You and your group member are to EACH have a slide in which he/she discusses their opinions regarding discrimination
