Chamber assembly Procedure 1. Put the gaps with already made H.V and ground connections on the assembly table. 2. Put the aluminum frame on the assembly table. The frame encircles a slightly raised trapezoidal platform. 3. Mount external H.V and gas connections on the frame. 4. Place the 7 mm thick polyurethane filled panel on the assembly table on the raised platform. The top as well as bottom sides of the panel are already glued to 500 micron thin Aluminum foil. 5. Assembly Procedure - II 6. Paste the large gap on the mylar sheet using double stick tape. H.V connection is kept on the bottom side.7. Place the etched strip sheet on the gap.8. Put mylar sheets cut to the size of two top gaps on the strips.9. Place the two gas gaps at appropriate position keeping the ground connections at bottom and H.V connection at top.10. Paste mylar sheet on the top gaps.11. Put copper foil on the mylar sheet. This copper foil acts as signal ground and is offset inward by 15 mm.12. Assembly Procedure - III 15. Raise the Aluminum frame to accommodate the assembled sandwich.16. Put the assembled sandwich on a plane table.17. Make internal gas connections.18. Complete the external H.V and ground connections.19. Place the frame lid at the top and screw it to the bottom frame.20. Mount FEB shielding covers on top panels and attach cooling pipe with it.21. Prototyping • PK-01/99 400*400 mm2 double gap RPC, Italian bakelite 1999. • PK-02/00 Full-size RE 2/2 chamber, tested at GIF in 2000, phenolic bakelite gaps fabricated in Italy ( 10 9 cm). • PK-03/01 Full-size RE 2/2 chamber, tested at GIF in 2001, melaminic bakelite gaps ( 10 10 cm). • PK-04/02 Full-size RE 2/2, tested at GIF in 2002, gaps supplied from Korea ( 10 10 cm). • Good results were achieved in all beam tests. Production Plans • First low chambers installation RE+2 11/04 • Chambers should be ready 3 months before the installation. • 72 chambers to be shipped from Pakistan 04/04 • Arrival in Geneva expected in 06/04 • Chamber tests prior to installation: 07/04 • Gas gaps delivery from Korea 03/03 • Procurement of materials should start 11/02 • Material procurement in Pakistan takes time: • Typical Order – Delivery delay ~ 4 – 6 months Forward RPC EDR, Tariq Solaija
Production plans • Time T0 is assumed to be arrival of gaps from Korea. • We hope to produce 3 to 4 chambers / week. • Production of 432 chambers would take 108 to 162 weeks after time T0. Forward RPC EDR, Tariq Solaija

Front end board • RPC Endcap group uses the 32 channel board designed by INFN (Bari). • 50 boards in final configuration have been fabricated and used during the beam tests by Korea, China and Pakistan in 2002 . • 3000 boards will be fabricated in bulk. Proposed FEB Testing FEB Rx. board TDC Input pulse Trigger Threshold All channels are simultaneously pulsed and TDC hits are checked against three threshold levels 100,150 and 200 mV. Summary • Chamber design for stations RE */2 & RE */3 is • ready and good results have been achieved in beam • tests. • Most of the resources & equipment is available to start • chamber production.However, some tooling can only be • designed and produced after EDR. Materials can also be • ordered in bulk after EDR approval. • Work on automatic 32 channel FEB testing program • is in progress.FEB production in bulk can be ordered • if satisfactory results are obtained in 2002 beam • tests completed recently, the data is being analyzed.
