The Basics • Alonzo Cano was a sculptor, architect, and painter that was born in Granada, a place in Spain at March 19th, 1601. • Cano died at September 13th, 1667. How or where he died is not known, but there are many stories about this. • Cano learned architecture from his father, Miguel Cano. He learned painting from Francisco Pacheco, the master of Velazquez, and sculpture from Juan Martinez Montanes. • He was in Seville from 1614 to 1638 and studied painting by Pacheco and sculpting by Montenes.
Accomplishments • Cano painted Madonna and Child in the church of Lebija. • King Philip IV made Cano a royal architect and painter. • In 1658, Cano made a facade (the front of a building). This was almost at the end of his life. It stayed there even after Cano died in 1667. • Cano not only made himself famous, but also made the people that taught him sculpting, painting, anc architecture, interesting. • Cano also became a priest and played an important role in religion.
Qualites • Cano is best known for his temper. Cano was also tortured because he murdered his wife. (This is not why Cano died.)
conclusion • Alonzo Cano was a sculptor and a painter that lived from 1601 to 1667. He drew many paintings, and also sculpted a lot. He painted Madonna and Child in the church of Lebija. Cano became a priest, and many people, including his own father, taught him. Cano is best known for his temper, and he was tortured for killing his own wife.
