Problem and Solution What Is the Problem? • The heat energy produced by radiation through building windows can either aid in lowering heating costs in the winter time or aid in raising energy cost in summer. • What can we do about this fact? The Solution: • Create a system that knows what time of year it is and how much heat radiation there is at a particular time of day. • Based on that information controls how much radiation comes inside.
Requirements • Save energy in the summer and winter • Easy to use • Safe (environmental friendly and all the parts and wires will be safely covered) • Scalable

Time Line 8/21/00-9/3/00 => List as many ideas as possible 9/4/00-9/10/00 => Final decision and Prototyping the project => Decide on hardware and software to use 9/11/00-9/24/00 => Decide on the part to use for photo sensor, temperature sensors, motor controller and interface to use for communication between the parts => Start ordering parts 9/25/00-10/8/00 => Start on ASM chart 10/9/00-10/31/00 => Parts arrived => Start VHDL coding and motor system 11/1/00-11/22 => Test each component 11/13/00-11/26/00 => Working on the whole system
Individual Contribution Marray Harris • Getting the value(freq) from the photosensor • Interfacing the photosensor and the UP1-board Sakkina Sikandar • Getting the temperature values from the temperature sensors • Interfacing the temperature sensors and the UP1-Board • Interfacing motor controller and UP1-Board Sivanesvaran • Interfacing the motor controller and the dc motor • Interfacing the dc motor and the window blinds • Building a complete model of the system • Web page updating Responsibility will be rotated for Meeting minutes.
Political Issue • Federal Section 161 of the Energy Policy Act of 1992 (EPACT) and Executive Order 12902 direct federal agencies to purchase energy efficient building products.
