Student Learning Outcomes Workshop YBOR PSAV Tuesday, September 30th Jennifer Gangi
Why are we developing SLO plans? • Tied to SACS Accreditation • SACS = Southern Association of Colleges & Schools • 10-year accrediting cycle • SACS accredits the entire institution, not individual programs • Focus of SACS review-compliance review & QEP • Part of compliance review- assessing student learning outcomes at the program level • Over 90% of colleges get cited by SACS on SLO requirement
What is SACS Looking for? Develop and assess outcomes at the program level Majority should be SLO’s=what students are able to: • Know (cognitive) • Think (attitudinal) • Do (behavioral) as a result of the educational program Required Documentation: Define intended outcomes (3-5) Identify methods for assessing outcomes Assess outcomes annually Collect results & review results to make decisions regarding program improvement
College Planning System One Planning System-One login; Several sub-systems within it • Tactical Planning • Paul Nagy’s office • Unit plans & objectives • Biennium • Faculty Planning • Karen Griffin • Faculty goals (same ones that were paper based FUSA) • Annual • Student Learning Outcomes • Jennifer Gangi, Brian Mann • AS and PSAV • Same SLO plans you have been doing just moved the SLO system into the planning system • Annual *You may have access to all three or one
