STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES: Where we’re at • 85% of our Courses have at least one SLO written (@88% if you take away those courses that are still on the books, but haven’t been taught for many years) • ACCJC/WASC was impressed by how much we had accomplished since their October 2007 visit, BUT… • We still have a LOT to do!

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES: Agenda for Flex Week • Finish Writing SLOs for each Course • Make sure each course has at least ONE SLO written for it • We need to be at 100% by MONDAY!!! • Begin writing additional SLOs for courses that have just one SLO– this can take place over the course of the semester

While I will lecture for some period of time at almost every meeting, each student will be responsible for participating in the accompanying discussion section. Our major goals for the semester are not only to become familiar with the American story and the many facets and quirks of American history, but also to utilize a variety of primary sources in interpreting and analyzing the American story, and to learn to think critically about the analyses and interpretations of other historians (secondary sources). In particular, each student will be able to do the following upon completion of this course: • Analyze and synthesize Modern Americanhistorical sources to formulate a historical thesis. • Explain relationships between the causes of historical events in Modern America and their effects. • Apply the lessons of historical events in Modern Americato the present. • Describe historical actors and events in Modern Americaand explain their significance in historical and historiographical context.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES: Agenda for Flex Week • Conduct an ASSESSMENT STUDY! • Select Course(s) AND Course SLO(s) to be studied • Design Assessment Study and do ASSESSMENT STUDY PLAN (template in Forms Depot) • HOMEWORK: Assessment Study Plan must be turned in to Devon by FEBRUARY 9TH via email • Draft shared rubric (if necessary) • Conduct study during Weeks 10 and 16 • Have department SLO Coordinator collect data from instructors • Plan meeting to discuss/analyze results

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES: Agenda for Flex Week • Did you do an assessment in Fall 2008? • Fill out an Assessment Study Plan now and turn in to Devon ASAP • Have Department SLO Coordinator compile data on Assessment Results • Schedule a meeting to take place (During Flex Week?) where instructors can come together and analyze results. • Fill out Assessment Analysis Report after analysis meeting

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES: How we can help during Flex Week • SLO Assessment Analysis Workshop: How to Analyze Data and Use It for Improvement, Wednesday, January 21, 10-11:30 a.m., Griffin Gate • For departments that have already conducted a study and want to know what to do with the data they’ve collected • For departments that want to get some ideas on how to analyze the data they will be collecting this Spring • Bonus: ASGC Student Showcase after (starting at 11:30) with FREE FOOD!

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES: How we can help during Flex Week • SLO Writing Analysis Reports Workshop, Thursday, January 22nd, 1-2:30 a.m., Room 376 • Will explain the Assessment Analysis Report Template and how to fill it out! • For departments who have already conducted and want to know how to document the analysis conversation they have had or will be having with department members • For departments who want to get ideas on how to report on the assessment and subsequent analysis they will be conducting this semester
