Disillusionment • To lose faith; realize what you believed was a lie • Following the mass destruction of the war, many people questioned all aspects of their existence—their government, the way they lived…especially authority
Quick Jot!! • Using the definition of Disillusionment… • Have you ever felt Disillusioned? Why? Think about: Santa Claus… Heroes that didn’t live up to your expectation… politics…etc.
Men return from War to the USA • Women had taken up jobs as part of Total War practice during WWI. • Soldiers returned home to find women with many new expectations of equality.
Rebellion • Act of defiance against authority • Women especially defied authority and tradition by adopting new attitudes and looks—shorter hair, tighter clothes, new activities like drinking and dancing • This “new woman” of the 1920s was called a flapper
