  1. Bouveault Blance Reduction Leena Omar Chemistry Department An-Najah National University

  2. Table of Contents • Objective • Back ground • Reaction and Mechanism • Application and Recent literature • Conclusion • References

  3. Objective • Bouveault Blance reduction : Background, reaction , mechanism and recent literature in organic synthesis. • To gain a knowledge about Bouveault Blance Reduction and it application in organic synthesis and in our life.

  4. Back ground • This method is an inexpensive susbstitute for LAH reduction of esters in industrial production ,and was the only alternative prior to the development of the metal hydride reducing agents. • This dissolving metal reduction is also related to the Birch reduction.

  5. Mechanism of the Bouveault Reduction • Sodium serves as single electron • reducing agent and EtOH is the proton donor .If no proton donor is available, dimerizationd will take place ,as the Acyloin condensation.

  6. Recent literature • An Improved Bouveault-Blanc ester reduction with stabilaized ALkali Metals

  7. Recent literature

  8. Applications • Alcohols elevates extracellular dopamine in rate brain. • Demanding the highest degree of purity. • Life saving Drugs. • Use in personal care applications.

  9. Conclusion • As the result , we definded the Bouveault blanc reduction in organic chemistry and in our life and we understood the bouveault reduction is important in reduction of ester , finally thank you for listen
