Extended Standards and the Promethean Board Make it Fun!!! “GRRR, it’s the PIRATE WAY !!!”
Extended Standards and the Promethean Board ~Make it Fun!!!~ • This presentation will be geared to teachers who work with students whose IEPs include the Alabama Extended Standards and who are assessed by the Alabama Alternate Assessment. • We will discuss how to use this technique to give your students access to the general ed. curriculum in all areas but still work on an appropriate level for each child. • It is the greatest tool to capture your students’ attention for an extended period as a group! I use it several times daily for this. • Since our students are very concrete, the hands-on approach of the Promethean Board makes so much sense. • Of course, all kids love using this tool, so it is a great way to promote interaction with general ed. students who are peer tutors. • And teachers, you will love the way it helps you implement your students’ IEPs and document your AAA information!! • Last, but not least, it is FUN!!!
Why Use It? • Interactive • Auditory, Visual, Tactile • Focused group work • Access to General Ed curriculum • Improves computer skills • AAA Documentation • Meets individual needs • Switch friendly • Teaches taking turns • Teaches working with others (including non-disabled peers) • Motivating and Fun!!!

TIPS: • Range of Motion-This is especially motivating for your wheelchair students, and the • screen will adjust to the correct height. • Hand-over-hand techniques can be utilized as appropriate. • Be careful with your pen nibs as they can break off easily, but don’t panic because • they are cheap and your school will have plenty of replacements. • The Promethean Boards are very compatible with switch activities. • Short on mulla? Our class recycles Mardi Gras beads for class cash, which also meets • lots of AAA goals!!!
