  2. “But as he forged along he saw to his great astonishment that all the lights were on one enormous building- a lofty structure with pointed towers plunging upward into the gloom.” • Rainsford was a man who was cautious when he spotted the house. He was also very courageous because he knew that one wrong move he could end up in the water and get banged into the rocks. You could tell he was determined because he swam all the way to land and looked for a place for shelter. I also found he was adventurous because when he saw lights in the distance he went towards them.

  3. “A rather good lot, I think,” observed the general. “They are let out at seven every night.” • When Rainsford saw the dogs I saw that he was nervous because he knew what they were capable of. Also even with the dogs against him he was still confident he could win. I also saw he was level headed and thinks rationally because he was thinking of what he needs to survive and keeping calm.

  4. “At daybreak Rainsford, lying near the swamps was awakened by the sound that made him know he had new things to fear.” • I saw that Rainsford is restless being in the swamps because he wants the game to end so he can escape the island safely. He is fearless at times but makes sure he is hunted. So he gets up and carries on running.
