How it all begun (Slave trade). • The blues (music) originated from Africa - (America) during the slave trade. Slaves would sing to express their unhappiness and dissatisfaction, it was a very important part of a slaves life. • Thousands, maybe even millions of Africans were forced to go to America during the 18th & 19th century. The slave masters used them as slaves and sent them to work on plantation farms.
How exactly did the blues develop? • The blues developed in a variety of different ways. Instruments: At the beginning the drum was the most popular instrument ( it would be played with sticks). In addition, the shakers and tambourines were distinctively played as well, but now in the 21st century the blues have the option to use electronic instruments. Furthermore, the bands became smaller and plenty of artists went solo.
12 bar blues • The 12 Bar blues originated from Africa , the African slaves made syncopated rhythms. They also used a tactic called ‘call and repeat’. You can play the 12 bar blues on a piano whilst using improvisation.
Passionate Blue singers • In blues music there is much bending and slurring of blue notes which produce a jarring sound. Singing consists of high pitched wailing charged with emotion. • For example: Eric Clapton spread blues music by a mixture of traditional songs.
