Introduction • What crawls, eats leaves, has a bunch of legs and does not hunt? A Caterpillar!
What does the caterpillar look like? • Some caterpillars are hairy. Some can look like a toothbrush bristle. Some can be as big as your thumb.
What is the caterpillars habitat? • Caterpillars live on what they eat. Some live by fruit . Some live by meadows, trees and fields. They do not live in the cold.
What does it eat? • The caterpillar eats fruit, treeleaves and plants.
All about its babies • The caterpillar is the baby., or larva of a butterfly. The caterpillar molts its skin as it grows. It can’t stretch its skin. It molts more than several times. In about 2 weeks it will make a pupa or chrysalis, where it will go through metamorphosis into an adult.
Fun fact • Some are smaller than a inch.
