More traceability fields and larger subgroup size with minimal performance concessions 48 traceability fields, subgroup size of 72 Retrieval speed reduction of 40% to 50% only if you are using these new fields Conversion summary screens “No data conversion!!” - design goal for v7
Faster data access, easy login/logout, better time resolution Database queries optimized, Note indicator Login/Logout Seconds/Hundredths
Additional security features(enhanced 21 CFR Part 11 compliance for FDA requirements) Audit Trail Password expiration
Improved configuration reporting, flexible document delivery, adjust the clock to your work day starting time File menu additions Additional file paths Retrieval time offset (Work day begins at…)
Individualize real-time alerts Real-time checks Monitor
More flexibility with data Import/Export: SPC/DMS, XML replaces ARC (although ARC can still be read) SQL Utility: SPC/DMS database manipulations
More information with SPC charts, easier to publish data Notes in reports Combined control chart, Multiple data table Email Histogram cell boundaries and counts Chart marker toggle (DMS too)
SPC Data Entry debugging made easier Ctrl-Alt-D or Ctrl-Alt-F8 Debug window (multiple lines, double-click on SVar list)
SPC Data Entry provides portals to information and more control for charts Tabs Charts Colors and big fonts Undo Quick Start DMS Data Entry
Templates that are universal and reusable across the enterprise yield lower setup costs and efforts NVar, SVar, and StdVar Formula display: 2 lines or 13 Retain formatting Copy row button Goto in Feedback for real-time failures
Find information faster The search path follows the template order (row or column) Find dialog remembers its last position Variables button (for NVars and SVars) Searches Formula and User message Ctrl-F, F3
Easier to program Cell references using Svars (e.g. Goto [SVar 1] Email, Registry Modulus, Integer division Logout Path, Table List_Q RTF_Status FOP_Status Input_Pos, DataRowsOK_Pos SaveRows
Easier to program Over 50 new commands, especially Debug Chain_*, Exit, Shutdown DMSEntry PickTab RunAndWait Integrated Email SQL access to your “islands of data” Access to Statistics and Standards DataOK, SaveRow List_P, List_F, Choose3, Format Concat multiple strings
Lower setup costs (Step 4) and more control over the program (Step 6) Increased number of columns (286) Calculated column on top of list Multiple button Clear traceability property Formula mode for external application button (includes expanded textbox and formatting)
Faster data access Switch to Pervasive Client/Server (formerly known as Btrieve) Speed improvement if 8 or more concurrent users are connecting to the database Minimal IT support needed (as compared to Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server) Least expensive solution for client/server access Call sales department to discuss options and pricing

Agenda Understanding and planning the upgrade process Conversion types available during the upgrade process Running installation Launching conversion from installation Demo Testing what we’ve done so far Upgrading workstations
Planning for Conversion • Check and update file paths • Reasonable limits (reas_lim=) • Additional CMS.ini settings • Archive data • Recover data tables (Btrieve only) • Plan to upgrade both SPC and DMS • Check space available for conversion • Discuss upgrade with IT staff • Consider new database options • Decide on conversion type
Conversion Types In addition to updating program files, version 5 to 7 upgrades will convert the data and configuration tables. Conversion options available are: • Copy & Convert: data and configuration are copied and converted in a new location • Convert-in-Place: live data and configurations are converted • No conversion: install Version 7 and start new
Why Copy & Convert? • Opportunity to test upgrade • Automated process • User-controlled process • Standardized across all database platforms
Installation For installation to perform a conversion on the current data, you must: • Run installation from a workstation where a current version of SPC and/or DMS is installed • Have ‘SPC Manager’ login rights • Know the database platform used • Shut down all workstations to allow files to be updated
Installation: Select Components • Current Configuration Directory • New Configuration Directory • Program Files Destination Directory
Installation: Start Copying Files • Summary screen before installation starts copying files • Review data and program files locations
Launching Conversion • After installation is complete; the program will ask you to reboot your workstation to launch the conversion program
