England • Removal of all national limits to classroom observation • Appraisal and capability procedures together • Limited informal stage of capability procedure only within appraisal • Performance to be assessed against relevant professional standards (rather than them being a ‘backdrop’ to the process) • No requirement to consult on appraisal policies, merely ‘good practice’

  8. Government changes- timeline England Wales Sept 2011 – consultation on regulations closed December 2011 – new regulations laid Jan/Feb 2012 – transitional arrangements due to begin? January - model policy published September – removal of 3 hour protection This term and next – schools and LAs considering whether to change policies

  9. WORKING TOGETHER - national campaign taken forward in every school -winning support from other organisations - maintaining existing provisions where acceptable - winning adoption of union models - winning recommendation by LAs
